A damaged tooth may need a crown for strength and comfort. In the past, that often meant a temporary crown and a second visit. A same-day CEREC crown can make the process much faster. The scan, design, and final crown may all be done in one visit.
What is a same-day CEREC crown?

CEREC is a digital system that helps create ceramic dental work. It uses a small scanner, design software, and an in-office mill. The final crown is made to fit your tooth and bite.

The visit, step by step
First, the dentist numbs the area and removes weak or damaged tissue. The tooth is shaped so the crown can fit over it.
Next, a small camera takes a digital scan. There is no tray of putty. The scan becomes a 3D model on a screen.
The dentist designs the crown and checks its shape. The office mill then forms the crown from a ceramic block. After the crown is polished, the dentist checks the fit and bite. The crown is then bonded in place.
Why patients like the one-visit process
A same-day crown can remove the need for a temporary crown. It can also cut travel time and reduce time away from work. The digital scan gives the dentist clear details for the design.

How to care for your new crown
Wait until the numb feeling is gone before you eat. Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth each day. Avoid chewing ice and other hard objects. If the bite feels high or the tooth stays sore, call the office.
Frequently asked questions
Is every tooth right for a same-day crown?
No. The dentist must check the tooth, bite, and repair needs first.
Will the crown match my smile?
The ceramic can be chosen and shaped to blend with nearby teeth.
How long can a crown last?
The life of a crown varies. Good home care, regular exams, and a healthy bite can help it last.
