Healthy ideas for easter

Easter is approaching, and with that comes the temptation of sweet treats like chocolate and baked goods.

While it’s fine to enjoy these holiday foods in moderation, it’s also important to remember that too much processed sugar can cause damage to your teeth and overall health.

Healthy ideas for easter

With your oral health in mind, we’ve put together some snack ideas that are as delicious as they are nutritious…

  1. Fruit skewers
Quick and easy to make, fruit skewers make a healthy snack, plus they are brightly colored and beautiful to look at, which makes them ideal for kids. Simply thread a few fruits of your choice onto wooden sticks — pineapple, grapes, melon, strawberries, apple, and banana are all great options. If you can get your hands on a bunny-shaped cookie cutter, you can use it on the firmer fruit chunks to make your skewers extra cute! Serve with a side of whipped cream or nut butter for dipping if you’re feeling indulgent.
  2. Fresh veggies and hummus
Crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery are great for your oral health because their fibrous texture actually helps to scrape the teeth clean. Plus, they’re packed with vitamins and minerals that are good for your overall health. Make your own homemade hummus to serve alongside a plate of veggie sticks for a tasty and nutritious party snack.
  3. Devilled eggs
Devilled eggs are a year-round favorite, and there are a number of ways to stuff them, depending on your preference. Cream cheese makes a good filling because it’s rich in calcium, while plain yoghurt is also a nice, light choice. For something different, try filling the eggs with hummus or guacamole — your guests are sure to be impressed!
  4. Boiled eggs with bunny dippers
If you would like to put together an Easter themed breakfast that the kids will love, try classic boiled eggs and toast with a twist. Soft boil the eggs and then use a cookie cutter to create bunny-shaped whole wheat toast. Pop the eggs in egg cups, cut off the tops and let your little ones dip the toast bunnies into the soft yolk.
  5. Fruit ice cream
A tasty alternative to traditional ice cream, homemade fruit ice cream is a good dessert if you’re looking for something low in added sugar and calories. For a super simple version, blend frozen bananas in a food processer until they are smooth and creamy. You can also add cocoa powder for a chocolate flavored treat, or other fruits like mango and strawberries.
